Leslie was frustrated with her boss. Although he told Leslie privately that she was performing well, that support disappeared whenever another manager questioned Leslie’s work.
Her supervisor failed to defend Leslie and instead deferred to other managers, telling Leslie it is better to “go along to get along.” Although Leslie loved the company and her work, her supervisor’s behavior caused her to disengage out of fear she wouldn’t be supported during crucial moments.
Proverbs 3:27 says, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.”
As business leaders and Jesus followers, we should shepherd our teams with integrity and commitment. As leaders, we should encourage our teammates to improve, but also praise and celebrate their successes, even when others don’t.
