Working for an electric transmission utility required that my colleagues and I did not have a financial interest in another utility. Employees were required to be unbiased in our roles, down to our personal finances.
When I discovered that my financial advisor had purchased shares in another utility, I instructed her to sell them immediately. Even though I wasn’t involved in the system operations, I also had to report the infraction to our company’s chief compliance officer. She informed me I did the right thing and reminded me to be more vigilant going forward.
Proverbs 28:13 states, “Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”
Confessing a wrong is never easy, but it’s a key path to mercy and restoration.
