Although some of us have a vast number of social media “friends,” having someone you deeply confide in seems less common. My pastor recently highlighted three elements he believes is needed to have a truly close friend: Proximity, Presence, and Transparency.
At some point we need to spend time face-to-face with a friend. We then need to be willing to be present for them and with them. Finally, we need to be vulnerable and transparent for the relationship to become truly meaningful.
Proverbs 18:24 says, “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
If you desire to have more close friends who stand with you through the challenges of the workplace, first try being a friend.
