Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was recently accused of improprieties, due to a wealthy friend who has shown Justice Thomas kindness and hospitality. Prior to any other disclosures in the media, the press and enemies of Justice Thomas began calling for his impeachment.
If Justice Thomas’ friend had a case before the Supreme Court, then, there would be a conflict, and he would be expected to recuse himself. But that supposedly hasn’t happened. I’m sure the other justices have wealthy friends as well, but no one was attacking them.
It seems that Justice Thomas’ accusers may have impure motives.
Proverbs 16:2 says, “All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.”
It’s good to check our own motives before casting blame on others.
