Before becoming King of Israel, David was persecuted and pursued by King Saul. Saul lied about David, damaged David’s reputation, and worst of all, tried to kill David.
Despite the persecution, on at least two occasions, when David had the opportunity to take Saul’s life, he chose to overlook the offense and, instead, to spare the king’s life. Through his patience, and by honoring God’s anointed, David ultimately became King of Israel and experienced a restoration of his personal reputation.
Proverbs 19:11 teaches, “A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.”
In business, there will be times when your reputation is trashed by others and you may desperately want to retaliate. Be patient, overlook the offense and then let God restore your reputation.
