In the 1950s, the Philadelphia police referred to the day after Thanksgiving as Black Friday, due to all the people starting their Christmas shopping. A negative day for police, however, became a great day financially for merchants.
Eventually, marketing savvy merchants became concerned about attaching a negative term like Black Friday to their best sales day. These merchants changed the narrative, promoting Black Friday as the day that merchants finally become profitable.
With a new message these merchants began embracing Black Friday.
1 Corinthians 12:8 says, “To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit.”
I don’t know if these merchants relied on the Holy Spirit, but the messaging we use in business is important.
