The movie “Hidden Figures” tells the true story of three black women trying to pursue their calling during a time of segregation. Mary Jackson started at NASA in a segregated position with her new friends Dorothy Vaughan and Katherine Johnson.
Eventually, Mary’s supervisor encouraged her to get an engineering degree. Unfortunately, due to segregation she had to get permission from the city just to attend classes.
Mary’s perseverance and talent resulted in Mary becoming the first female black engineer at NASA. Mary and her two friends encouraged and inspired each other, leading to all three being recognized with the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Proverbs 27:17 teaches, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Great things can be accomplished when you have friends to sharpen, challenge and encourage you.
