Years ago, during a challenging economic cycle, my friend Jeff and I discussed the impact of the economy on ministries. Jeff shared that he and his wife had decided to significantly increase their giving, due to the economy and many struggling ministries.
A generous spirit is rare and refreshing.
Paul highlighted the generous spirit of the Macedonian church in 2 Corinthians 8. Despite famine, this church longed to help others and did.
In 2 Corinthians 8:2, Paul wrote, “In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.”
With increasing expenses and declining revenues, many business leaders will decrease their giving. A truly generous spirit, however, is someone like Jeff, and the Macedonians, who help others regardless of the risks.
