Listen to the latest 60 second episode of Integrity Moments with Rick Boxx
Integrity Moments is a 60 second workday devotional that provides business leaders with helpful insight into what the Bible says about our work and how we can fully integrate our faith into our vocational calling.

Darrell Patterson was a faithful employee of Walgreens for six years. As a Seventh Day Adventist, he celebrates the Sabbath on Saturday.

For six years, Walgreens accommodated his faith. On one Saturday, Walgreen executives called an emergency training meeting. Patterson didn’t attend and was fired.

The law requires an employer to “reasonably accommodate an employee’s religious beliefs.” Patterson sued for Religious Discrimination. Now the Supreme Court has agreed to hear his appeal.

Exodus 20:10 says, “The seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work.”

Within reason, employers are to be sensitive to the spiritual needs of their team members. We may not all agree on how we practice our faith, but if one person loses their right, we all lose.
