When I learned the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals game had been cancelled due to Damar Hamlin’s injury, I was surprised. When you consider the millions of dollars in salaries, the millions spent by the fans, and the millions of advertising dollars at risk, the financial decision would have been to resume the game.

Fortunately, the coaches and the NFL executives realized that people were involved, and more important than any dollars lost. Their decision established a precedent that hopefully will be sustained in the future.

Jesus taught in Mark 8:36, “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?”

In business, it’s easy to make decisions based on the financial outcomes. A thoughtful leader will base decisions on what’s best for their people.
