Throughout my career, I believed that education was important for my advancement. I pursued advanced degrees to do my job and to better demonstrate to executives my commitment to my work.
I pursued my faith in the same way, continually reading and studying to build my faith knowledge. But simply trying to get smarter has its limits.
My pastor once told me, “You know more faith than you’re obedient to.” (I don’t think he meant it as a compliment.)
James wrote, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” (James 4:17)
Learning God’s word is important, but we can’t stop with acquiring knowledge. We serve God best when we act on what we know.
