When I was a foolish young banker, I was scheduled to work one Saturday morning a month. Rarely was I needed, so I felt justified one Saturday spending the day with my girlfriend instead of going to work.
Monday morning, my boss confronted me. He was angry, but he courageously rebuked me in a way that grew my admiration for him and taught me to respect authority.
Proverbs 9:8 teaches, “Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the wise and they will love you. Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still.”
Although I was foolish, I was wise enough to learn my lesson and to appreciate my boss. Don’t be afraid to rebuke a wayward subordinate. If they’re wise, they will grow to respect you.
