According to a Wall Street Journal expose, Tony Hsieh, the founder of Zappos, self-destructed and died from abusing drugs, while his team stood by and watched. After selling Zappos for more than $1 billion, Tony began paying a team of followers to help him pursue spiritual enlightenment and heavy drug use.
Even though some family members attempted to intervene, Tony’s entourage guarded him from outside influence. It’s understandable that these people feared losing their pay if they truly stopped, or allowed others to stop, Tony’s poor behavior. But their pay stopped anyway with Tony’s death.
Proverbs 11:7 says, “Hopes placed in mortals die with them; all the promise of their power comes to nothing.”
Don’t hang your hopes on mere mortals. God is the only one worthy of your worship.
