Too often we say one thing when we mean something else. We say ‘yes’ to too many obligations when we really want, or should, say, “No.”

Saying “no” is an important decision that allows us to prioritize.   To regain our ability to effectively and honestly say, “no,” we need to:

  • Understand the amount of time you may be committing.
  • Ensure the request is aligned with your priorities,
  • If you’re reluctant to say “yes,” always say “no.” and
  • Always be honest and tactful with your answer.

Matthew 5:37 says: “Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.”

Say “yes” when you mean yes, and say “no” when you mean no.  A different answer isn’t truthful, and all will suffer in the long run.
