Our work generates value in many ways, but we need to guard how we let it define us.
In a recent Substack post, pastor and author Scott Sauls cautioned against measuring our value by our work. We become anxious, he wrote, when “we believe our worth depends on what we produce, how visible we are, or whether we stay ahead of the pack.”
But God has defined our worth long before we ever joined the workforce. David wrote, in Psalm 8, verses 4-5: “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.”
Our value isn’t defined by our work, but by our creator.
