In a moment of frustration, Jennie made a derogatory comment to a coworker about another colleague. As soon as Jennie said it, she regretted it, but hoped that it would be quickly forgotten.
But when meeting later with the supervisor of the employee Jennie had criticized, the supervisor asked for the back story. The conversation was professional, which just added to Jennie’s regret for her actions.
Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:29: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Whatever our emotions, we best represent Christ at work by ensuring that our speech builds others up, benefiting both them and us in the process.
