Stan’s a friend who pastors an urban church. Stan told me a story recently. Stan’s stepfather was very abusive. When Stan’s brother terrorized or abused Stan, rather than seek his stepfathers help, Stan learned it was safer to manage the situation personally.
Stan claims that many in the black community feel the same way about police. To many, the police are viewed as agents of injustice rather than justice. Stan’s story helped me better understand the movement towards defunding the police, even if I disagree.
Proverbs 14:6 says, “A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge is easy to one who has understanding.”
In business, sometimes our colleagues have views that seem unreasonable to us. Sincerely seeking understanding, however, can help us begin working towards a mutually rewarding solution.
