As the Chief Lending Officer of a small bank, I was trying to clean-up a lot of problem loans made by the previous CEO. My focus was on collecting the business loans we had, rather than trying to make questionable new ones.
So, when a guy I knew from high school asked for a new loan, I was skeptical. When he realized I wasn’t favorable on his request he blurted out, “I’m not asking for much money. I’ve put more than that up my nose in a weekend.”
That didn’t help his situation. I denied his loan request.
Proverbs 13:3 teaches, “Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.”
Words said without forethought can negatively impact your future business prospects.
