When I was 25 years old, I started a faddish used car rental agency. Shortly after taking out a small business loan at 21% interest, unemployment skyrocketed to 13%.

My business prospects became bleaker each month. As I was nearing the end of my loan proceeds and cash flow, I asked a friend for advice.

When he encouraged me to close the business, I felt angry. I thought I could work harder and succeed. It took weeks to work through my pride. But eventually I concluded that my friend was correct, and I closed the business.

Proverbs 29:23 says, “A man’s pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor.”

When pride is overcome, and actions are taken sooner, there is a better chance of avoiding bankruptcy.
