According to “Christianity Today,” on February 7, 1837, Florence Nightingale was barely 17 years old when she believed God called her to future service. She courageously pursued this calling against the wishes of those around her.
Her parents were wealthy, and, expected her to marry well and settle down. She turned down an easy life and two suitors’ proposals to pursue her calling to the nursing profession.
Due to Nightingale’s hard work, brilliant mind, and compassionate spirit, she singlehandedly brought honor and dignity to nursing, and more importantly saved thousands of lives by providing better nursing care.
Romans 11:29 teaches, “God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.”
If God has a call on your life, pursue it courageously. Like Florence Nightingale, you might just change your entire profession.
