Recently, I scheduled a morning meeting at Panera’s restaurant with a vendor. Since I don’t drink coffee, I typically order hot chocolate.
However, the clerk informed me that management recently discontinued serving hot chocolate. As a financial guy, I understand limiting the number of products you serve to enhance profitability.
However, I wonder if management researched the other implications of eliminating hot chocolate.
For instance, I will avoid Panera’s because they have nothing I desire to drink. That eliminates the coffee purchases from my guests that Panera’s would have received.
Proverbs 15:14 teaches, “The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.”
When you’re making product decisions, seek to understand your customer’s needs and determine any ripple effects of your decisions.
