Years ago, I listened as a bank customer became loud and verbally abusive to one of our personal bankers. He said hateful things that crushed her spirit and had her in tears.
Greg, our bank president, heard what was going on and intervened. He rebuked the customer, handed the customer a check for the balance in his account, and told him he was no longer welcome at our bank.
Greg then consoled the personal banker and affirmed her value. Greg cared for her soul.
In Psalm 143:12, David asked God, “In Your lovingkindness, cut off my enemies and destroy all those who afflict my soul, for I am Your servant.”
There are times when leaders, like God, need to protect and care for the soul of those we shepherd.
