My job was winding down as the company prepared to eliminate my position. It was a stressful time as I scrambled to find employment to support my family. I was praying fervently for God to provide the things I believed – that I “knew” – I would need to be satisfied.

But I was taken aback in the midst of that season when I came across Psalm 4:7: “You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and new wine abound.” (NASB 1995).

That verse is a reminder that true joy doesn’t come from our situation, but our salvation. When we set aside our expectations and rely on God’s provision, regardless of our circumstances, we can find support and joy in our relationship with God.
