When I was at a low point in my job, I prayed intensely to God for either a dramatic change in my work or a new start. I cried out because I couldn’t imagine continuing the current situation. God answered my prayers with a new job that I gladly did for another 15 years.

But while my prayers were intense during the time of anxiety and uncertainty, my devotion faded dramatically as my situation improved.

Hebrews 2:1 says, “We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.”

We are called to depend on God in all situations, certainly when we are hurting and afraid, but also when we (mistakenly) feel we have things well in hand.
