As we celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary, I’m highlighting the foundational pillars that our Founding Fathers established, allowing businesses to flourish. The second pillar is the rule of law.
Our Founders had experienced injustice from rulers and leaders who were able to change the rules anytime it benefitted them personally. Because of their experiences, our Founders developed laws that are to be publicly declared, equally enforced, independently judged, and consistent with human rights principles.
This became known as the “rule of law.”
Leviticus 19:15 teaches, “Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.”
Business owners needed predictability and trust in laws that would treat them fairly. The Rule of Law paved the way for risk taking.
