My son-in-law, Brian, met with a mutual friend who previously had been CFO of a well-known, publicly traded company. When I asked Brian how his meeting went, Brian replied, “He shared an idea with me that I will never forget. ‘You are never as important as you think.’”
For an older wiser businessman of the stature of this former CFO to share this insight with Brian was profound and helpful. Brian learned that day that each position is replaceable and that we need to guard our hearts against pride, especially when we have some successes in life.
Proverbs 11:2 teaches, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
If you’ve experienced some successes, remember to remain humble. You are never as important as you think.
