One day when I was visiting a pastor in the urban core of Kansas City, a person entered the church. He requested that the pastor give him money for food.
The pastor handed this man a broom and simply said, “We need some work done. If you clean up our lobby, I’ll buy you lunch.”
Leviticus 23:22 says, “When you reap the harvest of your land, moreover, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field nor gather the gleaning of your harvest; you are to leave them for the needy and the alien.”
God commanded Israel to leave food for the needy, but they had to work for it. In your business, leave some margin for the needy, and give them the dignity of working for it.
