Listen to the latest 60 second episode of Integrity Moments with Rick Boxx

Mark was a technical expert who was promoted to manager of the engineering team. His experience had given him great insight into common company challenges. Whatever the issue was, chances are good that Mark had seen some version of it.
Unfortunately, that knowledge became a blind spot in his leadership. Too often, when a team member described the project that he or she was working on, Mark would jump to a conclusion while the team member was still describing the situation. That had the effect of depressing morale and discouraging people from talking to him.
Proverbs 18:13 says, “To answer before listening — that is folly and shame.”
Leadership is more than knowing the answers. It is honoring and encouraging the team members we lead.
