A common misunderstanding, especially in younger leaders, is that a newfound job title has some sort of magical appeal that will encourages others to willingly follow them.
In an address to the officers of the Virginia Regiment, George Washington said, “Remember that it is the actions, and not the commission, that make the officer, and that there is more expected from him, than the title.”
President Washington knew that you can’t talk people into obediently following you, they must see that your actions are worthy of respect.
Hebrews 13:7 says, “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.”
If you desire to have people who follow, you must lead in a manner worthy of followers.
