Imagine marrying someone who has great family wealth, and a father who was very successful in business. Many husbands put in that situation often feel it’s expected of them to provide for their wife in the same manner as they are accustomed.

This can set a very high standard difficult to attain. I have seen this high expectation lead to some foolish business risks being taken. These risks usually end with huge debts, financial ruin, and many times divorce.

Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 4:4, “And I saw that all labor and all achievement spring from man’s envy of his neighbor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.”

If you’re envious of your in-laws wealth, don’t chase the wind. Do what God has called you to do, no more, no less.
