Years ago, a family came to look at a used car I was selling. I decided that my bottom line was the car guide’s stated book value.
The father was determined to get a great deal and tried to negotiate the price even lower. I considered his offer until I heard this man’s daughter say, “I love this car, Daddy.”
When the father couldn’t get his desired price, he left. A few minutes later, the man returned and sheepishly said, “You knew my daughter and wife weren’t going to relent, didn’t you?”
Proverbs 20:14 says, “’It’s no good, it’s no good!’ says the buyer— then goes off and boasts about the purchase.”
When you’re selling something that the customer really wants, the words they say during negotiations can often be overlooked.
