Fletcher’s friend was not accomplishing the job responsibilities he was hired to complete. Fletcher was considering firing his friend, but they went to the same church, making the situation even more complicated.
I asked Fletcher, “If you fired this man today, would he be blindsided?” When Fletcher answered, “Yes,” it became obvious that Fletcher had some more work to do.
We determined that Fletcher would review his expectations with this employee, then they would establish goals to be met within a reasonable time. If those goals were not met, then termination was likely.
James 2:8 teaches, “If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’ you are doing right.”
Being terminated unexpectedly doesn’t seem very loving. Make sure your employees understand your expectations.
