For decades, Thanksgiving was a “day off” for many who typically worked retail jobs. This provided a rest and holiday for many to gear up for the biggest day of the retail year, Black Friday.
Things have changed. Last year, retailers began pushing Black Friday into (what many who labor in retail likely believe has become) Black Thursday. As the holiday sales have encroached upon Thanksgiving Day, many workers may feel used and disrespected.
King David led his people well. In Psalm 78:72 we read, “And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.”
Retail employers feel pressure to match their competition, but for Christians who desire to shepherd their people well, they might want to reconsider this latest infringement onto their staff’s holiday.
