In the Bible, the qualities of a good shepherd are similar to six qualities Jim Collins identified as Level 5 Leaders in his book, “Good to Great.” The fourth quality is to “develop discipline.”
Jim Collins wrote about what he called an “indomitable will” in great leaders. These leaders were extremely disciplined and persevered through any trials in order to obtain their goals.
By developing discipline, we can pursue our goals with passion while persevering through the challenges that arise.
Romans 5:3-4 says, “But we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope.”
There are always trials when we are pursuing our calling. Be disciplined and persevere in times of trouble and you will likely become a good shepherd.
