As a new commercial loan officer, one of the first loan applications I received was declined by our loan committee. I was terrified to have to tell this bank customer, “No.”
When we met, I gently tried to tell him, “No”.
The next day I realized I had a problem when the customer called and said, “Okay, so when can I pick up a check.” I had avoided conflict so well that the customer thought I had approved his loan! I learned it’s better to do your assignment right the first time.
Proverbs 29:25 teaches, “Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.”
Avoiding conflict is usually about fearing man more than fearing God. Fear and trust the Lord instead!
