When I was a banker, I inherited a loan to a lumber yard with multiple locations. This company was losing significant amounts of money and asked me to increase their line of credit.

After examining their situation, I realized that more money wasn’t going to solve their problem. They needed to address many underlying management and leadership issues.

So, I denied their request.

They were furious. But, with no more options, they began to address their problems, turning the business back towards profitability.

Hebrews 12:11 teaches, “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

Sometimes the best way we can love others is to provide discipline in their life.
