Our pastor, Tim, recently shared a story about becoming desensitized. Years ago, Tim was asked to speak at a youth camp.

When Tim first opened his cabin door, he gagged due to the rank smell of urine. When he asked his cabinmate how he could stand the smell, his cabinmate shrugged unawares.

Days later, Tim’s wife visited. When she opened the door, she gagged at the cabin’s smell. She asked Tim, “How can you stand that smell?” Tim no longer smelled the pungent odor.

Proverbs 19:27 teaches, “Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.”

Just like smell, in business we can become desensitized to the sin around us. That’s when listening to those who have a fresh perspective can be valuable.
