For years we hired therapists for our son, Jeremy. Years ago, my wife, Kathy, lined up an interview.
While interviewing this person, this young woman shared, unsolicited, that she was an atheist, and from a family of atheists. Kathy and I reasoned: If there’s no belief in God, or any eternal consequences for their behavior, that’s potentially one less reason to do the right thing. Fortunately, we had better candidates to hire.
In Nehemiah 7:2 Nehemiah wrote, “I put in charge of Jerusalem my brother Hanani,…,because he was a man of integrity and feared God more than most people do.”
All other things being equal, if I have a choice between hiring someone who doesn’t fear God and someone who does, I’ll abide by the law, but I’ll lean towards someone who does.
