A family member of mine was downsized at 61 years old. He assumes that getting hired for a permanent position at his age is doubtful.
Unfortunately, this possibility is based on past assumptions. Many employers currently assume employees will retire at 65.
Recent research by Transamerica has revealed that 54% of people now believe they will work longer than 65.
Only one Bible verse discusses retirement. In Numbers 8:25, the Levites were told, “At the age of fifty, they must retire from their regular service and work no longer.” Numbers 8 continues, encouraging aging Levites to shift to a different job.
If you’re an employer, consider that job seekers may not desire to retire. If you’re an aging job-seeker, share your willingness to work longer than the employer may expect.
