A study in the Strategic Management Journal claims betting on humble CEOs might prove valuable. According to a Wall Street Journal article this study discovered that humble CEOs often left stock analysts underestimating the earnings potential of the businesses that these CEOs led.
Because of this underestimation, these humble leaders often times exceed expectations—resulting in higher stock returns with at least a 7% increase in shareholder returns annually.
The conclusion reached was that the humble CEOs may not be any more capable than their charismatic peers, but they tended to under-promise and over-deliver.
Proverbs 29:23 teaches, “A man’s pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor.”
In your business life, don’t underestimate the value of humility. It can return a profitable and honorable result.
