King Saul had similar feelings about David when Saul allowed seeds of jealousy to take root. After Saul returned from a victorious battle, the Israelite women danced in the streets, praising David more than Saul.
1 Samuel 18:7 says, “As they danced, they sang: ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.'” Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly.”
Saul’s jealousy turned into multiple attempts to kill David that lasted for years.
