Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. realized that if excellence was modeled in the workplace, the opportunity for job advancement and improvement would increase dramatically.
In a famous speech, Dr. King said, “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michaelangelo painted, or as Beethoven composed music or as Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”
Colossians 3:23 teaches, “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.”
Whether you’re a street sweeper or a CEO, Dr. King’s instruction and God’s desire for our work is the same for everyone.
