A human resource manager wrote Liz Ryan, a contributor to Forbes magazine, for advice about an employee who was aggressively proselytizing others. Ms. Ryan encouraged this manager to communicate company-wide that each employee should bring all of themselves to work, including their faith.
But also to tell employees not to push their faith onto others who are not interested. Ms. Ryan further encouraged employees to respectfully speak up when a subject causes discomfort.
Ms. Ryan’s approach reminds me of Peter’s recommendation in 1 Peter 3:15, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
Encourage your team to bring all of themselves to work, but always to do so with gentleness and respect.
