My friend, Roger, used to call on small town radio stations. These small radio stations often struggled to survive unless they found a good advertising salesperson.
But frequently, a good salesperson would become very productive. Their sales commissions would soar until eventually they made more money than the owner.
Roger observed that this often led to the owner, or their spouse, becoming envious, even though the business became more profitable. In response they would begin manufacturing ways to trim the salesperson’s commissions.
The result would be the salesperson resigning, leaving the business struggling for survival again.
James 3:16 teaches, “For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice.”
If you’re watching someone succeed who works for you, rejoice with them rather than envy them.
