When I was a banker, I used to get nervous when one of my business loan customers would receive glowing press and be featured in articles. When the accolades happened frequently, it was not uncommon to watch my customer’s pride and ego become almost unbearable.
It usually wasn’t long afterwards that I would watch as their businesses would crumble, or worse, implode. It reminds me of balloons.
When you fill balloons with too much air they burst, but with the right amount, balloons rise even higher.
Proverbs 29:23 teaches, “A person’s pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor.”
If you are experiencing successes and accolades, don’t allow your balloon to pop from your pride. Instead, be humble and allow God to receive the glory.
