Recently on the newsletter site Substack, author Samuel D. James compared our expectations in life to gardening.
For instance, if we “plant” hard work, we expect a crop of financial gain. If we “plant” self-control, we expect positive outcomes.
But sometimes we don’t get the results we expect. Sometimes hard work doesn’t produce success.
That doesn’t mean the world is an arbitrary place, but that we are tilling a fallen garden, full of snakes, weeds, and other things that shortchange our plans.
Paul told the Galatians in Galatians 6:9, not to tire of doing good, “for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Consistently following God’s call on our lives produces a worthwhile crop no matter what the garden throws at us.
