Moses was allocating land to each tribe of Israel, but one tribe had no sons to accept the inheritance. The daughters of this tribe felling unfairly treated complained about being left with nothing.
God could have just resolved this one problem, but he knew that similar situations would arise. So God solved the problem and established a policy.
God said in Numbers 27:8 “If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter. If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.”
God’s policy set the stage for peaceful resolution to future questions. When faced with a workplace problem look beyond the moment and determine if a policy would help others in the future.
