If you’ve ever rented a vacation home, you’ve probably experienced the lack of price transparency. You see a reasonable nightly charge, only to discover that as you go through the process, they begin adding hidden service charges and cleaning fees.
Last month, the state of California passed a law that requires more transparency in lodging and restaurant fees. The law’s intent is for customers to see the total price they will be charged from the start.
In Biblical times, scales were used to price produce. Some merchants used different weights to deceive customers. Their deception increased profitability, and harmed customers.
Proverbs 20:10 says, “Differing weights and differing measures— the Lord detests them both.”
When you’re setting prices, treat people fairly and provide transparency. This will please customers and God.
