One of the struggles many family businesses face is jealousy. I’ve observed a father play his son and daughter against each other to see which one was better suited for running the family business.
This fostered jealousy and caused them to sabotage each other, even when they knew it was harmful for the business.
In Genesis 37 Jacob revealed his favoritism of Joseph by making him a beautiful coat. In verse 4 we read, “When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.”
Jacob’s sons sold Joseph into slavery out of jealousy, devastating their family. Jealousy can destroy your family and your business. Be careful not to stir up or embrace jealousy.
