George Washington left his American legacy with a great reputation. Even though the famous story of George Washington chopping down a cherry tree and not lying about it, may not be true, this story speaks to people’s belief about his character.

George Washington once said, “Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company.”

1 Timothy 3:7 teaches about the qualities of elders when we read, “He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.”

George Washington and the Apostle Paul understood the importance of guarding their reputations. If you desire to be a godly leader, guard your friendships and reputation carefully.
